Philosophy

We have observed that a student who trains diligently twice a week for six months will begin to feel a physical and spiritual benefit. One who has done so for a year should be better equipped to defend themselves. We also have a recognised approach to women's self-defence that is an essential element of our system. However, learning mere moves is not the main objective, as true martial arts help you develop your spiritual dimension, improving both your confidence and humility.

You're always welcome to join us in training. Initially you may train in regular sports wear. For safety reasons jewellery may not be worn and those items which cannot be removed such as rings and piercings, should be taped over. No footwear is recommended, and you may use head bands and wrist bands if it helps. Those with long hair should wear it tied back.

During our classes we do our utmost to ensure your safety, therefore all new students will partner senior students. All our instructors are highly dedicated, with a fine sense of control over the learning environment. All classes are structured to contain a section dedicated to limbering, stretching, conditioning and breathing exercises.

Behaviour

We are a martial art, not a sport, hence we accord it due respect. Students  are expected to observe certain rules of courtesy and good behaviour. We teach  in a traditional, sincere, friendly and safe manner, with constant regard for practical requirements. We successfully balance traditional aesthetics with practical requirements.

Nam-Pai-Chuan is more than just a narrow external manifestation of the martial arts. We complement our physical fitness with the practice of chigung breathing exercises for a balance between internal and external health.
